2023 Outdoor Color Belt Test and Cookout

Independence Day is behind us. That means our annual outdoor color belt promotional exam is right less than a week away with lunch to follow. Unlike our normal tests, EVERY rank will test together. This is a great opportunity to see your friends and fellow martial artists out of uniform as you grab a bit to eat, hit the beach or climb on the playground. As usual, this test is slightly different from our normal bi-monthly tests. Currently the weather forecast has a high of 81 for the test, with a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Here are some of the highlights:

Color Belt Promotion Test Info

  1. The test will be held OUTDOORS at Booth Lake memorial park.
    • N8465 Townline Road, East Troy, WI 53120

For directions, you will find the precise location is the entrance at the top of the hill, here: https://goo.gl/maps/BoqCFjLCi2stkBn6A.
Last year, Booth Lake installed a new pavilion near the soccer fields. That is where we will be hosting the color belt promotional exam and lunch!
  2. The park opens at 9:00 AM. As soon as everyone arrives and we get setup, we will begin the test. PLEASE be to the park BEFORE they open at 9! The sooner everyone is there, the sooner we can start testing, and we want to finish testing before it gets too hot.
  3. ALL STUDENTS will begin testing at 9. Students will be dismissed as their material is completed.
  4. Students should wear dark pants with a school t-shirt. Shoes are optional but encouraged.
  5. Students should bring the following:
    1. A Water bottle (We will have water, but all the waters will look the same.)
    2. Your belt! (We will not have any pink belts if you forget!)
    3. Red stripes on up need to bring all their necessary weapons for their weapons forms.
    4. DO NOT bring sparring gear. we will not be doing padded sparring for this test.
  6. Parents and spectators should bring lawn chairs/folding chairs to sit and watch. There will be limited seating in the form of picnic benches available, and the testing board will have priority for those seats.
  7. Finally, make sure to start hydrating! This summer has already been hot, and we want everyone to stay cool and healthy during this test.

Cookout Info

The cookout will begin around noon.

  • If you are NOT testing, and only attending for the picnic, please be aware that people will be testing when you arrive – keep noise to a respectful volume.
  • Remember to bring your swimsuit and beach gear! There are changing facilities at the park.
  • Booth Lake requires wrist bands to visit the beach. We have already purchased those. Please, see Master Nick to get them.
  • There is still slight, chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Pack an umbrella just in case things get wet.
  • PLEASE LABEL ALL YOUR DISHES/SERVING UTINSELS. Every year numerous dishes are left at the party that never get returned to their rightful owners. Please label your dishes. We recommend blue painter’s tape for its ease to peal off.
  • Please settle up with Master Nick or Miss Amanda prior to the picnic! It is always much easier for us to take care of the finances and paperwork in a place with a steady internet connection.

In Case of Inclement Weather

In the case of thunderstorms, downpours, or extreme air quality alerts, Elkhorn Flying Dragons MAY decide to have the test at their facility. Please keep an eye on your email and Facebook Friday and Saturday morning for any news or updates. If this happens, we will make all possible efforts to make sure you know!
