Elkhorn Flying Dragons – March 2021
Greetings students! This month promises to be interesting. As Covid cases fall, we have been exploring how to safely implement sparring back into martial arts class. To start, you may see more partner drills and low intensity competition. If this goes well, the next step would be no-contact sparring and then kick only sparring. As a reminder, this is a journey, and we can only make progress if we all follow the health guidelines. We have confidence that you guys can exceed our expectations. Hand sanitizer is located at both sides of the mat. Please, try to social distance and make sure your mask is covering your nose and mouth so we can continue to return to normal.
For some of us, it has been over a year since we’ve gotten to spar. This might even be new to some of you. Whether we’re dusting out the cobwebs or studying fresh material, we recommend looking at the rules before this comes up in class. If you would like to purchase sparring equipment, we have packages available.

Updated Schedule
Aikido Foundations
Now, let’s talk about Aikido. On Tuesday/Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturdays at noon, we practice Aikido, a martial art which utilizes the power of an attack to defend yourself. In this martial arts class, we explore a how to use throws, joint-locks, pins, and a number of weapons. Subsequently, many of our students who also practice Aikido perform self defense with more confidence and grace. Certainly, this martial arts class can be a great way to bridge the gap and continue practicing–especially when it feels like a long time between those higher belt tests.
