Hello Students,
Hopefully everyone got though the first storm of the winter season OK.
Before the snow melts, I want to take a moment to remind you winter weather communication and closing policy.
And, to be clear: we ARE open tonight, 11/21. (The snow wasn’t THAT heavy in Elkhorn).
As a rule of thumb, we take guidance from both the Elkhorn High school and Gateway Technical College: Elkhorn campus.
If either of these schools are announcing the night before a storm that they will not be open, it is a safe bet that we will be following suit. Over the past winter seasons we have gone back and forth on this idea and ultimately we have decided that we would rather close the school in advance of a big storm than to guess wrong and have the school open during a major blizzard. If the school is open, I know that some of you will try to show up regardless of the weather; Miss Amanda and I don’t want any of you getting into an accident. Remember: self defense isn’t just about kicking and punching, it’s also about making decisions that don’t put you in harms way.
This brings me to my second point; Miss Amanda and I are very familiar with our commute, but we are not familiar with yours. If you feel the roads are not safe to travel near you, STAY HOME. We are very aware that after a big snow fall, roads are cleared in a specific order by the DOT. Miss While we commute on the freeways and have our roads cleared early, not everyone is so fortunate. If we are open, and you don’t feel safe driving, please make up the classes when the weather is better.
Ahead of a big storm, we will try to give you as much advance notice as possible. When we do make the decision to cancel classes, we will communicate this in the following ways
- We will send out an email from this address
- We will Post about it on our Facebook page
- We will put a notice on our website
- We have partnered with TMJ4 to post our snow closings on their website: https://www.tmj4.com/weather/school-closings-delays
- You can also get email alerts from TMJ4 as well; search for Elkhorn Martial Arts Center on their email alerts page
- And, of course, you can always call the school at 262-743-2111
Please note that in the case of rapidly deteriorating conditions, we may have to make the call to cancel some of the later classes. In case of severe winter weather, keep an eye out, or call if you have any questions.
Thanksgiving Closing
While we have your attention, we will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. As a reminder, there will be NO class Thursday, November 28th or Saturday, November 30th. That means the last day to sign up for hockey style hoodies and the NAKA Christmas party is Wednesday, November 27th.
Stay safe and Warm out there (and avoid any unscheduled falling practice!)
